The Nigerian Association of Small Scale Industrialists (NASSI), Jigawa State Chapter, has trained more than 1,000 local government staff on pre-retirement planning, entrepreneurship, and life-skills development.
The Secretary of NASSI, Jigawa State Chapter, Comrade Danlami Alhaji Shuaibu, disclosed this during a pre-retirement and SME training held in Hadejia.

The programme was organised by the Jigawa State Local Government Service Commission.
He said the initiative aims to equip workers with the knowledge and capacity needed to manage life after retirement, explore entrepreneurship opportunities, and contribute to the economic growth of their communities.
According to him, the training became necessary due to the challenges many civil servants face after leaving service.
“The Local Government Service Commission came up with this initiative to change the narrative of how civil servants struggle to manage themselves after retirement,” he said.
“Most civil servants end up battling paralysis, depression, hypertension, and other ailments due to mismanagement of their retirement benefits and the sudden adjustment to life outside service,” he added.

NASSI commended Governor Umar Namadi for his efforts toward ensuring that retirees remain productive and continue contributing to the economic development of the state and the country.
Comrade Shuaibu also urged the State Civil Service to emulate the Local Government Service Commission’s commitment to preparing workers for a stable and self-reliant post-retirement life.
