Bayero University Kano (BUK) has reiterated its commitment to advancing reforms in public finance and governance to drive sustainable development in Nigeria and across Africa.
The Vice Chancellor, Professor Haruna Musa, made the pledge during the first International Conference on Public Administration, organized by the Department of Public Administration, Faculty of Economics and Management Sciences.

Represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor Research and Development, Professor Amina Mustapha, the VC pointed out that BUK has spearheaded academic engagements that align with the yearnings and aspirations of citizens according to global standards.
He described the conference theme as timely, urging participants to apply the knowledge gained towards improving governance structures in Nigeria and Africa.
In his goodwill message, the Chairman of the occasion and Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC), Professor Salisu Shehu, emphasized the rapid shift brought about by the digital economy.

He said Africa is witnessing unprecedented transformations, and forums like this serve as catalysts for good governance and financial accountability.

The lead paper presenter, Matawallen Zazzau and lecturer at Kaduna State University, who also serves as Chairman of the Kaduna State Local Service Commission, Professor Aminu Ladan Sharehu, highlighted how Africa particularly Nigeria can transform public policy and financing mechanisms to drive sustainable development.
He noted that the conference is focused on exploring how public policy and financing can be leveraged to enhance the administration of good governance
A participant, the Deputy Director of Administration, Sabon Gari Local Government, Kaduna State, Nura Ibrahim Aminu highlighted the importance of community-driven projects and town hall meetings in promoting accountability and grassroots development.
The three-day conference, themed “Transforming Public Policy, Public Finance and Governance for Sustainable Development in Africa: Issues, Challenges and the Way Forward,” drew a large turnout of participants from within and outside the country.
