    AGILE Project Empowers 74,452 Girls in Kano State

    A total of 74,452 girls have benefited from financial assistance under the Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment AGILE across 19 Local Government Areas (LGAs) in Kano, covering the 1st and 2nd cohorts.

    AGILE is a World Bank assisted project of the Federal Ministry of Education geared at improving secondary education opportunities for adolescent girls aged between 10 and 20.

    The project provides a holistic approach to improving equitable access to quality education for adolescent girls through improving school infrastructure, providing conditional cash transfers to low-income households, addressing social norms that hinder girls from attending school, and empowering girls with life, digital, and economic empowerment skills.

    Speaking to newsmen shortly after a visit by Kano AGILE component 2.1 team to Makoda LGA beneficiares from GGSS Maitsidau, GGSS Koguna and GGSS Sabon Ruwa, Bilkisu Yunusa Abdulkarim, Maryam Auwal, Nafisa Ibrahim,Bilkisu Abubakar Musa,Habiba Auwal and Sadiya Hassan.

    The students described AGILEs financial assistance popularly known as conditional Cash transfer CCT as a major catalyst to educational development.

    The students noted that they have utilized the funds to develop entrepreneurship skills, selling local sweets and perfumes funds were utilized for the purchase uniforms, books, sandals, school bags.

    The Beneficiaries of the project expressed gratitude for the financial assistance.

    In her remarks, the Deputy Team Lead of Component 2.1 that deals with advocacy, sensitization and mobilizing the community on girls education Hajiya Abu Umar Muhammad, explained that they were at Koguna Town in Makoda to identify challenges concerning the CCT.

    She stressed that, some of the Beneficiaries face challenges with their ATM cards, others with their names and sometimes the cards refuse to dispense cash among other complications.

    “74,452, were captured in the 1st and 2nd cohort while 39,000 girls were registered in the 3rd phase “

    The deputy team lead highlighted that, a large percentage of the girls have accessed their funds to boost their education.

    The Chairman Makoda local government area, Alhaji Auwal Isah Jibga hinted that the initiative has reduced out of school children across the LGA and state in general.

    He appealed for sustainability and urged beneficiaries to make judicious use of the funds according to laid down rules and regulations.

    Paradigm News reports that earlier the AGILE component 2.1 was e in Bebeji LGA to interact with students, teachers and all relevant stakeholders to ensure the success of the conditional Cash transfer CCT.
