The Adolescent Health and Information Projects (AHIP) is advocating for equal rights for girls in various sectors, including education, healthcare, nutrition, and legal rights.

Hajiya Mairo Bello, the executive director of AHIP, emphasized that girls continue to face inequality due to discrimination, unequal access to education, gender-based violence, and forced marriage.

She stressed that gender inequality is widespread in Nigeria, with many societies believing that girls should not have certain rights.

To address this, Hajiya Mairo urged parents and guardians to educate their children to make them self-reliant and appealed to the government and stakeholders to promote girls’ education to global standards .

The 2024 International Day of the Girl Child theme, “Girls’ Vision for the Future,” highlights the need for urgent action and hope driven by girls’ voices and vision.

“This theme aligns with the United Nations’ focus on empowering girls by addressing challenges such as climate change, poverty, and inequality”
