Kano, Nigeria – After a meeting convened by the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-corruption Commission PCACC, the state government and the Master Bakers and Caterers Association of Nigeria, Kano State Chapter, have reached an agreement on the price of bread.
The agreement comes on the heels of a reduction in the price of flour, which had led to calls for a corresponding decrease in the price of bread.

However, the bakers association argued that the reduction in flour prices was not enough to warrant a decrease in bread prices, considering the costs of other ingredients.
According to the agreement, instead of reducing the price of bread, bakers will increase the size and quality of the bread.
This decision is aimed at providing better value to consumers without compromising the bakers’ profit margins.
The meeting, which was attended by the Chairman of the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-corruption Commission, Muhuyi Magaji Rimin-Gado, and representatives of the bakers association, also clarified some misconceptions about the price of flour.

It was revealed that the bakers were not buying flour at N90,000 as claimed by some, but rather at N60,000, thanks to the state government’s intervention. The flour companies had also reduced the price of flour by N2,000, effective last week.
The agreement is expected to bring an end to the controversy surrounding bread prices in Kano State, and provide a win-win situation for both bakers and consumers.
