The Governing Council of Bayero University, Kano (BUK), has announced the commencement of applications for the position of Vice-Chancellor, which will become vacant on August 19, 2025.
In a statement signed by the Registrar and Secretary to the Council, Haruna Aliyu, the university outlined the criteria and requirements for prospective applicants, emphasizing the need for distinguished scholars with at least 15 years of experience in university teaching and administration.

The Vice-Chancellor serves as the Chief Executive and Academic Officer of the university, overseeing its strategic leadership, financial and administrative affairs, student admissions, and overall institutional development.
Applicants must hold a PhD from a recognized university, have attained the rank of Professor for at least five years, and possess a strong academic and research background. They must also demonstrate exceptional leadership and administrative capabilities, exhibit impeccable integrity, and have a clear vision for advancing the university. Additionally, candidates should not be older than 65 years at the time of assuming office.

Interested applicants are required to submit 25 copies of their application, including a detailed Curriculum Vitae, a statement of vision for the university, and references from three individuals attesting to their academic standing and moral integrity.
Applications should be addressed to the Registrar and Secretary to the Council, Bayero University, Kano, and must be received within six weeks from the date of the announcement.
The new Vice-Chancellor will serve a single five-year term, with remuneration and conditions of service as applicable in Nigerian federal universities.
