Member representing Ido/Osi Constituency II at the Ekiti house of assembly, Mr Yomi Ayorinde has called on all citizens of the state to actively participate in the process of lawmaking.
Ayorinde gave the charge during his annual constituency engagement and town hall meeting held at Usi-Ekiti in Ido/Osi Local Government Area of Ekiti on Thursday, tagged, “Account For Stewardship: The Journey So Far.”
While thanking the people of Ekiti for entrusting the members of the assembly with their mandate, he urged them to propose bills to the House which would be considered and passed into law.
He also invited them to attend the public sittings of the House, so as to be acquainted with the legislative process.
Ayorinde, former member of the National Broadcasting Commission, reeled out the achievements of the Seventh Assembly under the leadership of Rt. Hon Stephen Aribasoye with corporation of Governor Biodun Oyebanji.
He listed the achievements to include: Ekiti State Electric Power Sector Law, 2023,Sport Commission Law, 2023,Lottery Commission Law, 2023, Supplementary Appropriation Laws 1 and 2, 2023.
Others are: Ekiti State Development And investment Promotion Agency (Amendment) Law, 2023, Ekiti State Environmental Protection and Watershed Management Agency Law and Other Matters Connected therewith, 2023, Appropriation Law, 2024, Regulation Approval Law, 2024, Ekiti State Legislative House Powers and Privileges Law, 2024, and Ekiti State Bureau of Asset Management Law, 2024.
Ayorinde, however disclosed that some pending bills include, Ekiti State Local Content (First Amendment) Bill, 2024, Ekiti State Security Trust Fund (Second Amendment) Bill, 2024, Ekiti State Public Procurement (First Amendment) Bill, 2024.
Other pending bills are: A Bill for a Law to Establish the Ekiti State Youth Development Trust Fund, for the Growth, Development and Advancement of Youth in the State and for other matters connected therewith, 2024, and Ekiti state property protection law (Anti land grabbing land) second ammendment 2024.
He urged the various communities to present their wants, needs and expectations that could form part of the legislative input into 2025 budget.
“As we gathered here, we expect each communties to step forward and make presentations on their community expectations that could form part of the legislative input into 2025 budget.”
Speaker, house of assembly, Rt. Hon. Adeoye Aribasoye, commended the dedication and resourcefulness of the members and assured Ekiti people that the House of Assembly was responsive to their yearnings and expectations of a proactive and forward thinking government with high premium on the people.
“Let me at this juncture sincerely appreciate my colleagues for the team work, unflinching support and invaluable advice towards the successful piloting of the affairs of the House since I assume the Speaker.
“I also want to commend the management and staff of the House for their immeasurable contributions which culminated in the success recorded thus far,”Aribasoye said.
While thanking God for the achievements recorded so far, the speaker and Ayotinde poured encomiums on the state governor, Biodun Oyebanji, for his commitment to the Legislature, which has culminated in a harmonious Executive-Legislature relationships.
In his contribution, the State Commissioner for Budget. Mr Oyeniyi Adebayo, promised to take the community expectations to the Governor for necessary actions in future.
A vote of confidence moved by former Speaker of the assembly, Adetunji Orisalade and seconded by Mr Tunde Odetola was passed on Governor Biodun Oyebanji.
Leaders from Usi-Ekiti, Osi-Ekiti, Ilogbo-Ekiti, and Ayetoro-Ekiti, presented their community expectations at the event attended by HRM Oba George Akande,
Olusi of Usi-Ekiti, HRM Oba Samuel Olufisan Ajayi, Alayetoro of Ayetoro-Ekiti, while the Regent of Osi-Ekiti was represented
The event was also attended by other stakeholders, market women, drivers unions, members of NULGE, NUT, CAN, Chief Imams, student bodies, Okada riders, among other artisans.
