Kano Federal High Court, presided over by Justice AM Liman, has fixed March 28, 2024, for the ruling on the bail application on fundamental enforcement suit by Kano Ticktoker, Murja Ibrahim Kunya against the Kano Shari’ah Court, Hisbah Board, and the Attorney General.
Murja, represented by her lawyer Barrister Yusuf Faragai, approached the Federal High Court seeking for the enforcement of her fundamental rights by requesting bail.
Faragai argued that the court’s order to evaluate Murja’s mental health and place her under the custody of a psychiatric doctor violated her rights, emphasizing that bail is a constitutional right for a defendant.

The lawyer argued that the alleged offence is bailable, and Murja should be presumed innocent based on the constitutional provision.
The defence counsel Barrister HH Suleiman raised a preliminary objection, questioning the jurisdiction of the Federal High Court in hearing the bail application due to a similar application filed in a Kano State High Court.
The lawyer contended that Murja’s action was an abuse of the court process having filed an application of the same issue to the court of coordinated jurisdiction.
Following the arguments Justice Liman adjourned the case to March 28 for the ruling.
The court had directed the appearance of the defendant after an application by her lawyer.
Recall that Murja was referred by the Kano State Shari’ah Court, PRP, to undergo a psychiatric evaluation following allegations of sharing immoral content on her social media platforms, leading to her trial by the Kano State Police
