Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State has formally crowned the new Emir of Rano, Ambassador Muhammadu Isa Umaru, with a pledge to revive the lost glory of traditional institutions in the state.

Yusuf crowned the second class Emir as the 19th Autan Bawo and presented him with Staff of Office at a colourful ceremony held on Monday at the Rano Township Stadium.

Amid traditional gun salutes by palace aides, the Governor explained that Ambassador Umar’s selection as the new Emir was based on merit and urged him to bring to bear his wealth of experience towards the development of his domain and the state.

He said the State Government would continue to support traditional institutions in view of their crucial role in the development of the state.

“Our administration is committed to reviving the lost glory and sanctity of our reveredr traditional institutions across the state,” he said.

Yusuf said his administration is fully aware of the socio-cultural as well as the economic significance of traditional institutions to the well-being of the state, hence its decision to support them.

In his remarks, the new Emir thanked the state government for appointing him as the new Emir of Rano and pledged to work for the unity, progress and development of the Emirate and the state.

Ambassador Umar then appealed to Governor Yusuf to revoke the 5km road project in his domain and reassign it to another contractor for speedy execution.

According to him,the contractor currently handling the project is not up and doing, hence the need to reassign the job to another contractor.

He also appealed to the Governor to find a lasting solution to the age-long water scarcity being faced in the area which he said past governments could not address.
