Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has distributed sports kits to 600 football clubs across the state’s 44 local government areas, with a pledge to rehabilitate all stadiums within their domains.

The distribution ceremony, held at Coronation Hall in the Kano Government House, also featured the presentation of appointment letters to newly appointed board members of Kano Pillars Football Club.

In a statement released by the governor’s spokesperson, Malam Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, on Friday, Governor Yusuf emphasized the economic potential of football, describing it as a lucrative industry where many youths could build successful careers.

He highlighted the achievements of Kano indigenes playing professional football abroad, who not only support their families but also contribute to the state and national economy.

The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to empowering youth, both within and outside the sports sector, to promote self-reliance.

He announced that the Kano Sports Institute, currently undergoing rehabilitation, will soon be fully equipped and ready to admit students.

The institute will provide free accommodation and feeding to its trainees, ensuring a conducive environment for sports development.

Regarding Kano Pillars Football Club, Governor Yusuf expressed disappointment over the club’s decline during the previous administration and vowed to restore its former glory.
