The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences (ICPC), has urged Kano online journalists to always report critical issues that will enhance economic development and standard of living in the country.

The Chairman, Dr Musa Adamu-Aliyu made the call during a one-day training for online journalists under the platform of the Association of Online Journalists (ASKOJ), organised by ICPC on Wednesday in Kano.

Adamu-Aliyu, represented by ICPC Assistant Commissioner, Hassan Saminu, explained that the commission found it necessary to partner with online journalists so that they would be acquainted with the requisites requirements of reporting the activities of ICPC objectively.

“With the recent happenings in the country, journalists need to be abreast with reporting development issues that will promote the image of the country globally, rather than just reporting activities of insurgency and other negative aspects,” he said.

He pointed out that the cordial relationship that existed between the online journalists and the commission was commendable, adding that more efforts should be put together to sustain the tempo.

The Chairman urged the online journalist to always maintain the ethics of the journalism profession.

“Don’t deviate from fair and just reportage for the development of our country,” he said.

On his part, the ICPC Resident Commissioner in Kano State, Ibrahim Garba-Kagara, maintained that the training was to equip journalists with requisite knowledge about ICPC operations and initiatives to enhance their skills in reporting corruption issues.

Represented by ICPC Head of Investigation, Kano, Abubakar Jibrin, the commissioner called on journalists to be sincere and avoid sensational reporting on corruption issues.

Also, the Chairman of ASKOJ Yakubu Salisu, commended the commission for organizing the training.

He hinted that the association was established in 2020 with the sole aim of bringing the online journalists together to achieve the set objectives.

Salisu advised ASKOJ members to make adequate utilization of the training to enhance their capacity in online reporting.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that various papers on Online media and ICPC information management processes and policy were presented.

NAN also reports that the training with the theme “Effective Reportage of ICPC’s Operation and Initiative” attracted participants from different online media in Kano.(NAN)
