Kano, Nigeria – In a bid to strengthen its healthcare system, the Kano State Government, through the Sustainable Health Commodity Supply System Committee (SHCSSC), has organized a 3-day capacity-building workshop for pharmacists and pharmacy technicians.
The workshop, held in collaboration with Global Affairs Canada and Nutrition International’s Improved Diarrhea Treatment Outcome Project, implemented by Forward in Action for Education, Poverty, and Malnutrition (FAcE-PaM), aimed to enhance the supply chain management of healthcare commodities in public primary and secondary health facilities.
In his opening remarks, SHCSSC Chairman and Director Pharmaceutical Services, Ministry of Health, Pharm. Kamilu Mudi Salisu, emphasized the crucial role of quantification in ensuring the availability of quality health commodities.
He urged participants to actively engage with the presentations and clarify any doubts, ensuring effective service delivery.
The workshop covered key aspects of supply chain management, including logistics, selection, and quantification of drugs, as well as ordering and receiving processes.
Experts, including Pharm. Tukur Ibrahim, Director Drugs and Supply, and Nura Yahaya and Bello Muhammad Dandago, SHCSS Focal Persons, provided theoretical and practical insights.
Pharm. Kamilu commended Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for prioritizing the health sector, resulting in significant successes.
He also acknowledged Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusuf’s innovative approaches and commitment to overhauling the system.
The SHCSSC chairman expressed gratitude to Global Affairs Canada and Nutrition International for their support, reaffirming the committee’s commitment to a zero-tolerance policy on expired drugs.
This initiative demonstrates Kano State’s dedication to improving its healthcare system, ensuring citizens have access to quality healthcare services.
