The Kano State House of Assembly KNHA has organized a public hearing to collate citizens’ input on the proposed 2025 appropriation bill.
Recall that a few weeks ago, the state governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, submitted a proposed budget of over 500 billion naira for the 2025 fiscal year.

However, in line with the constitution, the House of Assembly conducted bilateral discussions with ministries and departments MDAs, as well as a public hearing before considering the bill.
During the public hearing held at the assembly complex, several civil society organizations, CSOs, community-based organizations, CBOs, groups and associations presented their inputs for possible consideration in the budget.
Among those who were at the session was the Tsakuwa Mufarka Development Association, which urged the Kano state government to construct a library and renovate the science laboratory at Tsakuwa Senior Secondary School.

According to the secretary of the association, Comrade Abdulrashid Salisu Babah Taskuwa Mufarka is calling on KNSG to construct a road from Tsakuwa to Lahira, Tsakuwa to Sabon Garin Dalladi to Mazabar Gano, Tsakuwa to Mazabar Yargaya, as well as installation of two transformers.
“We are also appealing for the provision of solar-powered lights and sick bay at Tsangaya Islamiyya Boarding Primary School among others”

Similarly, the Kano state led accountability mechanism (kanSLAM) represented by Hajiya Aisha Halliru advocated for increase in the Kano center for disease control KNCDC start up grant, Tuberculosis and leprosy control programs as well as maintaining the allocation of five hundred million naira for emergency preparedness and response EPR.
“Increased budgetary allocation for nutrition programs in addition to sufficient budget for maternal health services, child spacing to address maternal and child health”
“Particularly noteworthy is the governments sustained commitment to maintaining the health sector budget allocation well above the Abuja declaration of 15%”

In a related development, Kano state accountability forum on education K-SAFE represented by the co-chair CSOs Dr. Auwal Halilu urged government to expedite the approval and implementation of girls education policy, teacher development policy , non state schools policy and the ECCD policy.
K-safe advocated for speedy passage of the revised Kano education law, expediting engagement with UBEC for timely release of counterpart funds as well as restoring free education funding.

While the Kano budget working group, made a submission through the programs officer Comrade Akibu Hamisu by advocating for increased budgetary allocation for immunization to reduce zero dose children,
“more efforts on oversight functions to facilitate access to basic healthcare services at the grassroots level, timely release of funds for capital expenditure in the education sector, and infrastructural development in the rural areas”
Responding the chairman house committee on appropriation, Alhaji Aminu Sa’adu Ungoggo reiterated the assembly’s commitment in passing a-citizens-oriented budget.
He stressed that the house will scrutinize the inputs for possible inclusion into the budget to align with the yearnings and aspirations of the public
