The Kano state house of Assembly KNHA has commenced a 3-day retreat for members and management staff on the legality and operations of financial autonomy of state legislature as well as challenges of representation in Nigeria.

In a statement signed by the spokesperson to the speaker Kamaluddeen Sani Shawai, and made available to newsmen.

Declaring open the workshop, speaker KNHA Alhaji Jibril Ismail Falgore,emphasized the Assembly’s commitment to strengthening capacity and legislative knowledge to fulfill their duties.

He also expressed readiness to collaborate with Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s government to draft quality legislation for improving the living standards and socio-economic well-being of the citizens of Kano.

Prof. Abdullahi S. Danwanka from Sahal Consulting, who led the retreat, highlighted the retreat’s purpose, emphasizing issues related to the legality and operations of financial autonomy for the state legislature, budget tracking, monitoring, and the role of anti-corruption agencies in public accountability.

The 3-day retreat themed: sustainable public accountability through effective law making” aims at enhancing the understanding of financial autonomy operations, challenges of representation, and bills, among others.
