In a significant move to combat youth unemployment, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has reopened Kano’s Horticulture and Livestock training institutes, presenting 340 admission letters to students.
This initiative aims to equip young people with practical skills, making them valuable to society.
The Horticulture Institute will focus on environmental beautification and health, offering students a pathway to earn a livelihood in the sector. Governor Yusuf highlighted the importance of horticulture skills in contributing to natural beauty and environmental health.
Meanwhile, the Livestock Institute will train 140 students in practical skills like ram fattening, animal husbandry, and meat quality improvement, enhancing their capacity to contribute to Kano’s agricultural economy.
Governor Yusuf urged students to seize the opportunity, citing the success of a previous graduate recognized by the federal government for achievements in dairy production.
The government has provided essential infrastructure, including accommodation, water, and solar energy, to support students’ learning.
The Emir of Rano, Autan Bawo, and local government officials commended Governor Yusuf’s efforts, pledging support for the institutes’ objectives.
This move is seen as part of the governor’s plan to position Kano as a model state, driving economic growth among youth.
