The Kano State Commissioner for Health, Dr Abubakar Labaran Yusuf, has expressed satisfaction with immunization take up in Ajingi, Gaya, and Wudil local government areas.
Dr Abubakar represented by the director public health and disease control Dr. Ibrahim Aliyu Gano disclosed this while supervising the exercise at the three local government areas.
Recall that, on Saturday 2nd November 2024, the Kano state government kicked off the 2024 OBR4 campaign targeting 3.6 million children.
He described the high level of acceptance from the local communities, as a major catalyst to the campaign’s success.
The commissioner acknowledged the efforts of health personnel, local council leaders, and district heads for their commitment to ensuring eligible children receive immunization.
Dr Abubakar stressed that, Gaya local government chairman’s proactive approach of donating drugs and consumables to health facilities, and Wudil local government vice chairman’s grassroots engagement, were particularly noteworthy.
He urged parents to continue bringing their children to immunization centers or allow house-to-house vaccinations.
The commissioner tasked health educators and social mobilization officers with intensifying sensitization efforts to promote cooperation with vaccinators.
Kano State’s progress in polio eradication is part of a larger success story in Nigeria.
The country was certified wild polio-free in 2020 by the World Health Organization (WHO), thanks to the contributions of volunteers, including polio survivors.
