Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has assured readiness to conduct Local Government election in Kano state.

A statement issued by the Governor’s spokesperson Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa said the governor made the hint during a stakeholders meeting with the leadership of the ruling New Nigeria Peopls Party (NNPP) at Africa House, Government House, Kano on Friday.

The Governor revealed plans to conduct the council poll in due compliance with Judgment of Supreme Court that affirmed financial autonomy to the third tier of Government.

Governor Yusuf emphasized the importance of respecting the rule of law and maintaining financial prudency, accountability, and transparency in governance at all levels.

He assured that the local government elections would be free, fair, and credible and encouraged opposition parties to participate as his government would not interfere with the electoral process.

Furthermore, he stated that his administration allowed the previous LG Executive Councils in all 44 LGAs to complete their term despite pressure to dissolve them, demonstrating their commitment to upholding the rule of law.

“In light of recent Supreme Court judgments, the administration is prepared to conduct council elections”

Governor Yusuf also mentioned that the Kano State Independent Electoral Commission (KANSIEC) is making preparations for the council polls, which are expected to take place soon.

He added that the party would soon invite candidates to be selected for the 44 LGAs, who will run for the positions of Chairmen, Vice Chairmen, and Councilors.

“The campaigns will be conducted peacefully, with the belief that the majority of the people in Kano will participate in the voting process for NNPP” Gov. Yusuf assured”
