The Kano State-Led Accountability Mechanism KanSLAM has paid an advocacy visit to the Kano state private health institutions management agency PHIMA.

The team was led by the co-chair KanSLAM Pharmacist Maimuna Yakubu.

According to her, they were at the agency to familiarize themselves with the Director general and provide an overview of the coalition.

She explained that, KanSLAM is an independent coalition of civil society organizations CSOs, media and academia working across different areas of Human development in Kano state.

She pointed out that, members include government representatives from relevant Ministries, Departments and Agencies MDAs to facilitate and support linkages with other key government structures to ensure harmony and better coordination as well as serving as a strong and unified coalition of voices in support of community involvement.

“KanSLAM is an independent coalition that sources for funding without government intervention “

The knowledge management committee chair Hajiya Nafisa Murtala pointed out that, KanSLAM has recorded tremendous achievements since inception.

She said the coalition advocated for a budget line on family planning as well as increased funding for women and children.

“As an accountability forum we need the support to come to PHIMA as advocates whenever the need arise as we support government to give quality services to the people and at the same time ensure that get people get quality services from the government”

Responding the director general Kano state private health institutions management agency PHIMA Professor Salisu Ahmed Muhammad described the visit as apt.

He emphasized the need for proper documentation and annual scorecards for the health MDAs in Kano to ensure good governance and accountability.

“Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf is passionate about improving the health of his people. Our government operates an open door policy, we welcome every idea that will improve effective service delivery “
