Literacy has been described as a key component of education that would go a long way in ensuring effective service delivery.

The managing director of Ibzaar publishing company, Alhaji Ibrahim Abdullahi, stated this during a training of trainers (TOT) workshop on basic and post basic literacy materials held in Kano.

According to him, literacy is a fundamental right of every individual. He mentioned that it is a collective responsibility to ensure that everyone in Kano State has access to quality education.

“I am confident that this will be a turning point in our efforts to empower adults and out-of-school children with basic literacy Skills”

Alhaji Ibrahim emphasized on the need to equip teachers with the necessary skills and materials to achieve the desired objectives.

“Reality is that many of our citizens lack basic literacy skills, which hinders their ability to Participate fully in the society and contribute meaningfully to the development of our state”

He pointed out that the workshop is not just about acquiring new knowledge and skills but to share experiences, challenges and learn from each other’s successes.

“ We expect our facilitators to return to their duty posts Equipped with new skills and knowledge that will enable them to make a positive impact on the Lives of adults and out-of-school children in Kano State”

The managing director charged participants to step down the training and deliver high-quality literacy programs that meet the needs and yearnings of learners

“Let us work together to improve our skills and knowledge In literacy education. Let us work together to make a difference in the lives of our people”

Series of papers were presented during the workshop including structure of Basic and post literacy education program by Dr. Auwal Halilu BUK, Basic and post literacy programmes as contributors to life long learning in Kano state by Dr. Samir Halliru.

Others are health and safety issues in non-formal centres by Abubakar Ibrahim Hassan and Basic and post-literacy materials; Design and development by Ali Abdurrahman Sa’ad among others.

Some of the participants Gambo Yusuf Dada, Hasina Bashir Yusuf, Muhammad Bello Shuaibu, Kamilu Bashir and Khadijah Iliyasu described the workshop as apt and promised to make judicious use of the knowledge gained

The two-day workshop was organized by Ibzaar Publishing and Non-formal Development for Education Health Initiatives (NDEHI).
