Kano state government has been urged to partner with the Nigerian Institution of Estate Surveyors and Valuers (NIESV) aimed at improving socio economic development of the state.
The chairman of Kano state chapter of the institution, Abdulatif Abdulaziz made the call at the 2024 Mandatory continuing professional development seminar held in the state capital.
The chairman explained that partnering with the state government will go along way in boosting the revenue drive as well as the development of the state.
He pointed out that there is no doubt the real Estate sector has the potential to generate significant revenue for the state government through taxes and other levies if fully utilize them.
ESV Abdullatif Abdulaziz hinted that, the seminar is part of continuation of a long established tradition of never-ending constant promotion and sharing of knowledge, acquisition of competencies, provision of policy directions and expansion as well as deepening of professional development.
The chairman further explained that right now from federal to the state government, there is a pressing need to generate higher and more reliable revenue, to provide public goods that will support strong and durable growth, bolster the economic recovery and financial stability.
“This seminar is therefore in furtherance of our efforts to help assess existing institutional and organisational capacity, determine the capacity needs, identify capacity gaps and create a strategic plan to improve valuation capacity, processes and skills.’’
‘’Despite these tremendous and strategic importance, there has been reoccurring questions as to how and whether government are fully utilizing asset valuation in critical decision making relating to the assessment of the state’s financial position, determination of public revenue, allocation of resources and planning for future public services,’’ he said.
While expressing appreciate to All those who have contributed in one way or the other towards the success of the event, he charged members and associates to redouble efforts in promoting the profession.
In their presentations, ESV Shola Abeji and ESV Bawa Abdullahi Chafe described the institution as a way of boosting economic development in the state and the country at large
