REMAPSEN, the African media network for promoting health and environment, recently hosted a webinar to commemorate World Contraception Day, celebrated on September 26.
The webinar, titled “Expanding Access and Choice: Strengthening Family Planning in West and Central Africa,” was supported by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA).
REMAPSEN President Mr. Bamba Youssouf emphasized that the webinar was organized to commemorate the 17th World Contraception Day marked on 26th September
He described REMAPSEN as a platform that unites African journalists in promoting health and environmental issues, engaging authorities and partners to ensure effective healthcare solutions.
The panelists Dr. Sennen Hounton, Director of the UNFPA Regional Office for West and Central Africa, Martin Migombano, Director General of the Regional Hub for North, West and Central Africa, Mrs. Alima Cissé, Family Planning Service Provider in Mali highlighted the importance of family planning in the development process of Africa.
The Webinar Highlights include Significance of World Contraception Day, Raising awareness about contraceptive use and family planning,Family Planning Policies, Assessing existing policies and challenges in Africa.
Others are Establishing hubs across West and Central Africa. As well as Contraceptive Distribution such as Innovative distribution methods, including via hairdressing salons.
REMAPSEN journalists raised concerns about birth control risks, funding, side effects, cultural barriers, and healthcare infrastructure. The panelists provided reassuring responses, addressing these concerns to the satisfaction of attendees.
Paradigm News reports that Over 70 REMAPSEN journalists from across Africa participated in the webinar, demonstrating the network’s commitment to promoting healthcare solutions and community well-being.
