The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) has conferred its prestigious Fellowship Award on veteran sports journalist and former North West Vice President, Ado Salisu, in recognition of his over three decades of dedicated service to the sports media industry.
The honour was part of activities marking SWAN’s Diamond Jubilee Celebration, which celebrates 60 years of promoting sports journalism and excellence in the profession.

In a statement signed by the Association’s National Secretary, Ambassador Ikenna Okonkwo, SWAN described the recognition as “well-deserved,” noting that Ado Salisu had played significant roles in the growth and stability of the association over the years.
“The award is a testament to his contributions and leadership in sports journalism. His commitment and professionalism have left a lasting mark on SWAN and the media landscape,” the statement read.
Reacting to the honour, an elated Ado Salisu expressed his gratitude, describing the award as a humbling recognition of his years of hard work and dedication.
“This gladdens my heart. It shows that my service has been acknowledged and appreciated. I’m pleased that SWAN recognizes my contributions to sports development and journalism,” he said.

He urged young sports writers to embrace the values of selflessness, dedication, and resilience, stressing that while the path of sports journalism can be challenging, the vibrancy of the sporting press remains crucial for the growth of the industry.
Ado Salisu began his journalism career at the Triumph Newspaper, where he established himself as a respected sports reporter before joining ARTV Kano, where he retired after a distinguished career in the media.
His leadership and professionalism later earned him the position of SWAN Vice President for the North West Zone, where he contributed immensely to strengthening the association’s presence and influence in Northern Nigeria.
