President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced with deep sorrow the passing of his predecessor, former President Muhammadu Buhari, who died today in London at approximately 4:30 p.m., following a prolonged illness.
In a statement from the State House, President Tinubu expressed his heartfelt condolences to the family of the late leader, especially to his widow, Mrs. Aisha Buhari, with whom he has spoken personally.

As part of the arrangements to honour the former President, President Tinubu has directed Vice President Kashim Shettima to immediately travel to the United Kingdom to accompany the body of the late President Buhari back to Nigeria for burial.
Muhammadu Buhari served Nigeria with distinction, first as Military Head of State from January 1984 to August 1985, and later as democratically elected President from 2015 to 2023. His legacy spans decades of leadership, dedication, and service to the nation.

In honour of the late statesman, President Tinubu has ordered that all national flags be flown at half-staff across the country and at Nigerian missions abroad, as a mark of respect and national mourning.
