President Bola Tinubu has expressed deep concern over the severe flooding in Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State, which has displaced thousands of residents and damaged critical infrastructure
The recent floods, described as the worst in decades, have affected key facilities such as the Post Office and Maiduguri Teaching Hospital. The disaster was triggered by the overflow of the Alau Dam.
In a statement, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy Bayo Onanuga said President Tinubu extends heartfelt condolences to the government and people of Borno State, particularly those who have lost their livelihoods.
While assessments are ongoing, President Tinubu has directed the immediate evacuation of people from affected areas. He has assured Governor Babagana Umara Zulum of the Federal Government’s readiness to collaborate on addressing the humanitarian needs of those affected.
President Tinubu has ordered the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to provide assistance to flood victims. He remains committed to mobilizing federal resources to support the state during this challenging period.
