    Kano Commissioner Warns Against Selling Farmlands to Foreigners

    Farmers in Kano State have been urged to stop selling farmlands to foreigners and individuals with unclear identities.

    This call comes amidst reports of such activities, particularly in Shanono Local Government Area, which have raised concerns about the misuse of land meant for agricultural and mining purposes.

    The Ministry of Solid Minerals and Natural Resources is determined to address the issue through strategic measures aimed at fostering responsible land use.

    Speaking during an emergency stakeholders meeting on Monday in Shanono, the Commissioner for Solid Minerals and Natural Resources, Alhaji Safiyanu Hamza Kachako, highlighted plans for a statewide Task Force to regulate mining activities and prevent illegal land sales.

    Kano State Solid Minerals Ministry Achieves Significant Milestones

    According to Adamu Ibrahim Dabo the Director of Public Enlightenment at the Ministry, the Commissioner urged local government councils to enact by-laws to curb the trend and ensure compliance.

    He also emphasized Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s commitment to utilizing the sector to enhance Kano’s economic growth.

    In response, the Chairman of Shanono Local Government Council, Alhaji Abubakar Barau, revealed plans to invest in mining while cautioning farmers against selling farmlands to unauthorized individuals.

    Kano is Endowed with Solid Mineral Resources- Commissioner

    He called on the District Head, Alhaji Ibrahim Sani Gaya, to communicate the message to grassroots communities.

    Stakeholders, including representatives of the Divisional Police Officer, Civil Defence Corps, and community leaders, also shared recommendations to address the issue effectively.

    During an impromptu visit to Monkey Rock Quarry in Rimin Gado LGA, the Commissioner directed the Quarry Manager to report to the ministry for further briefings.

    He was accompanied by the Permanent Secretary, Engineer Mansur Yakubu, and other senior officials of the ministry, demonstrating the government’s commitment to strengthening oversight in the sector.
