In a significant move to combat hypertension in Kano State, Nigeria, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusuf has been decorated as the Hypertension Ambassador under the Kano Hypertension Advocacy Initiative (KHAI).
During this significant occasion, GAMMUN’s Project Director Tulari Tine and his team met with the Commissioner for Health, Kano State Ministry of Health, in the presence of Ezinne Ezekwem, Associate Director for Primary Health and Hypertension at the Global Health Advocacy Initiative (GHAI).
The decoration ceremony, which took place at the Muhammad Abdullahi Wase Teaching Hospital in Nasarawa, Kano State, was attended by key stakeholders. .

In his remarks, the Commissioner emphasized the importance of education, advocacy, and action in overcoming the challenge of hypertension.
“Hypertension is often referred to as a silent killer, but as we come together today, we send a loud message: we can overcome this challenge through education, advocacy, and action,” he said.
The Commissioner expressed gratitude towards GAMMUN, a non-governmental organization, for their tireless efforts in addressing hypertension in Kano State.
He reiterated the state government’s commitment to reducing the prevalence and complications of hypertension.
Ezinne Ezekwem highlighted the importance of integrating comprehensive hypertension care into primary health systems.

“With initiatives like KHAI, we can empower communities and healthcare providers to effectively address this pressing health issue,” she remarked.
The ceremony concluded with a commitment from all parties to collaborate towards the successful implementation of hypertension awareness programs and initiatives throughout Kano State.
