Mrs Aisha Ahmed, the Bureau Chief of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) Dutse, has emerged as the newly elected Secretary, Jigawa State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), in a peaceful election that took place in Monday in Dutse.
Comrade Ahmed is a bonifide member of the NUJ and previously held the position of Vice Chairperson, Nigeria Women of Journalists (NAWOJ) in Kano and was an active member of the Nigerian Guild of Editors, who also held the position of Secretary, at the Jigawa state Correspondents chapel.
Others who won the election were Comrade Sama’ila Ibrahim as the Chairman, Nura Bello also as the Vice Chairman and Muhammed Shuwajo of Freedom radio as Assistant Secretary.

Najib Umar emerged as the Financial Secretary, while Auwal Muhammed Kazaure emerged as the Treasurer.
In his acceptance speech, the new Chairman, Comrade Sama’ila Ibrahim, pledged to run an open administration with all members of the union on board.
He pledged to dedicate his time to the revival of the state Council and give priority to welfare of members, thus stressing on importance ethical conduct and professionalism.
Court Declines Injunction Against NUJ Elections
The Vice President Zone A of the NUJ, Comrade Muhammad Tukur while commenting after the Council elections, tasked the new leaders on transparency and accountability.
Mr Tukur advised the new council executives to carry all members along and ensure ethical journalism in Jigawa state.
