In a significant move against corruption, Nigeria’s Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Arc. Ahmed Dangiwa, and the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr. Olanipekun Olukoyede, have inspected a sprawling 753-unit housing estate recovered from former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Mr. Godwin Emefiele.
The estate, handed over to the Ministry by the EFCC, is set to be integrated into the Federal Government’s National Social Housing Programme.

The inspection marks a crucial step in the government’s efforts to provide affordable housing to Nigerians.

According to Arc. Dangiwa, the Ministry will conduct thorough technical assessments and integrity tests on the buildings before completing and selling the units to eligible citizens through the Renewed Hope Portal.

This initiative highlights the government’s commitment to transparency and accountability, as well as its determination to fight corruption.

“The government of the day is serious about fighting corruption,” he stated, emphasizing the importance of accountability and transparency in governance.

EFCC Chairman Olanipekun Olukoyede highlighted the importance of transparency in the commission’s actions.

“The essence of this visit is to show that it is real,” he said, reaffirming the commission’s commitment to accountability and public trust.

The site visit aimed to demonstrate the reality of the recovered estate, beyond aerial views that had been previously shown on television.

This move is part of the commission’s efforts to ensure accountability and build public trust, essential for effective governance.

The recovered estate aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s vision of affordable housing and good governance.

As the government moves forward with its National Social Housing Programme, this landmark recovery is set to benefit many Nigerians.

The programme aims to provide affordable housing options to low- and medium-income earners, addressing the country’s housing deficit.

The collaboration between the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development and the EFCC demonstrates the government’s commitment to tackling corruption and promoting transparency in governance.

The recovery of the 753-unit housing estate is a significant milestone in this effort, showcasing the government’s determination to recover stolen assets and utilize them for the benefit of citizens.

The Renewed Hope Portal, through which the housing units will be sold, is designed to ensure transparency and fairness in the allocation process.

The portal will enable eligible citizens to apply for the housing units, with the Ministry conducting thorough background checks to ensure that the units are allocated to deserving individuals.

The government’s commitment to fighting corruption and providing essential services is clear.

With “progressive policies paving pathways to prosperity,” the administration is working to create a more equitable society, where citizens have access to affordable housing, healthcare, and other essential services.

The recovered estate is a testament to the government’s resolve to tackle corruption and promote accountability in governance.

As the government continues to work towards recovering stolen assets and utilizing them for the benefit of citizens, Nigerians can expect more initiatives aimed at promoting transparency and good governance.
