The Katsina State Government has declared that only qualified health institutions will be allowed to operate within the state.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Tertiary Health Institutions, Hon. Umar Mammada, announced this policy stance while discussing the proliferation of private health training facilities and the need to verify their compliance with regulatory standards.
Report Reveals Deficiencies in Katsina’s Healthcare Institutions
According to him, the government inaugurated the first visitation panel on October 25, 2024, to assess these institutions and address growing concerns about their rapid expansion and substandard operations.
The panel completed its evaluation and found serious deficiencies in most private health training institutions across the state.
Out of the 31 private colleges assessed, only nine were deemed to meet the required operational standards. As a result, a White Paper Committee was formed to develop recommendations based on the panel’s findings.
Hon. Mammada explained that following the White Paper’s recommendations, 31 tertiary health institutions were scrutinized, with only nine granted approval to continue academic activities and training.
The remaining 22 institutions failed to meet the standards and will remain closed until they comply.
The nine approved institutions are:
Bawo College of Health Sciences, Daura
Essam College of Health Sciences, Katsina
Cherish College of Health Sciences, Katsina
Cherish School of Health Science and Technology, Katsina
North West College of Health Sciences and Technology, Katsina
Kudan College of Health Science
College of Health and Environmental Science
Umar Faruk College of Health Science, Daura
Muslim Community College of Health Sciences, Funtua
