In a landmark gesture aimed at boosting educational opportunities for rural communities, Major General Baba U. Yahaya, an indigene of Bagwai Local Government, has constructed a series of essential facilities at Government Girls Secondary School (GGSS) Kiyawa.
The newly commissioned projects include modern classroom blocks, a state-of-the-art science laboratory, a solar-powered borehole, and upgraded toilet facilities —all designed to enhance the learning environment for students.

Speaking during the official commissioning ceremony, the Village Head of Kiyawa, Alhaji Umar Jibrin Baba, expressed profound gratitude for Major General Yahaya’s commitment to transforming the educational landscape of the community.
“This initiative is a testament to the value our leaders place on education and the well-being of our children,” he stated.
In addition to the educational infrastructure, it was revealed that more than 100 young people from Bagwai Local Government have secured positions in the Nigerian Army, thanks to the efforts and support of Major General Yahaya.
Representing the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Olayede, Major General U. A. Yusif praised the projects at GGSS Kiyawa as timely and impactful.
“This initiative aligns with our mission to support community development, particularly in areas that nurture young girls’ education,” he said.
Bagwai Local Government Chairman, Engineer Bello Abdullahi Gadanya, represented by his Vice Chairman, Hon. Haruna Garba Bagwai, lauded the project’s successful completion and urged Major General Yahaya to replicate similar developments in other wards of the local government.
Major General Baba U. Yahaya emphasized that the initiative was driven by his desire to improve the well-being and learning experience of both students and teachers.

“I urge the Kano State Government to equip the modern laboratory with the necessary tools so that our students can fully benefit from this investment,” he added.
The event was graced by key dignitaries including the Kano State Commissioner for Internal Security, AVM Ibrahim Umar, alongside other political figures from the region, reflecting widespread support for the project.
