As Nigeria marks Democracy Day, the Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, Alhaji Jibril Ismail Falgore, has congratulated Nigerians and paid tribute to the champions of democracy, past and present.

He also renewed the present administration’s commitment under the leadership of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to transparency, citizen engagement, and inclusive governance.
Speaking through his representative, Alhaji Abdullahi Alfa, at an event organized by Aminu Kano center for Democracy Mambayya House, Falgore lauded the center for hosting what he describing it as a timely reflection on the nation’s democratic journey.
“This gathering is a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made by the heroes of democracy who fought tirelessly to uphold the rights and voices of Nigerians,” said Falgore.
The Speaker highlighted key reforms under his leadership aimed at deepening democratic values in Kano State.
According to him, the Kano State House of Assembly now operates with greater transparency, with plenary sessions broadcast live and the gallery open to the general public.
“We have institutionalized openness and inclusivity. Every citizen of Kano should feel a sense of ownership in our legislative process,” he said.
Falgore reaffirmed the Assembly’s unwavering dedication to enacting legislation that directly improves the welfare of Kano residents.
He also called on civil society organizations, traditional rulers, and citizens to strengthen collaboration in building democratic institutions.
“Our doors remain open to all stakeholders. The only way to move democracy forward is by working together for the collective good,”
The Speaker emphasized the importance of robust stakeholder engagement in safeguarding democratic principles and building a just society.
Democracy Day, observed annually on June 12, honors the struggles and sacrifices of Nigerians who fought for democratic rule, especially during the annulled 1993 presidential election, widely considered the freest and fairest in Nigeria’s history.
