Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to immediately remove the state Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Bakori, following his absence and that of police personnel during Nigeria’s 65th Independence Day celebration in Kano.
Speaking at the Sani Abacha Stadium on Wednesday, Governor Yusuf expressed disappointment that the Commissioner of Police and his men withdrew from the state parade on such a historic occasion.

“As you can see, on this important day marking Nigeria’s independence, the Commissioner of Police decided to pull out of the parade along with his personnel. This is unprofessional and disloyal,” Yusuf stated.
He further condemned the action, describing it as unethical and partisan, stressing that the government and people of Kano would not condone such behavior.
“On behalf of the government and people of Kano State, we strongly condemn this attitude. As the Chief Security Officer of the state, I call on the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to remove the Commissioner of Police,” the governor declared.
Governor Yusuf, however, reassured residents that Kano remains peaceful, urging security agencies to focus on their constitutional responsibilities rather than partisan politics.

“Every Nigerian is happy to celebrate this Independence Day. Kano is peaceful, and our people are peace-loving. But security agencies should not involve themselves in politics, as it does no good to Kano or Nigeria,” he added.
