The Kano State Ministry of Investment, Commerce, Industry and Cooperative is set to collaborate with the Kano State Internal Revenue Service (KIRS) to improve revenue generation and strengthen revenue collection within the Ministry.
The Executive Chairman of KIRS, Alhaji Bashir Yusuf Maitama, disclosed this when he led a delegation from the Service on a courtesy visit to the Ministry.
Maitama said the visit was aimed at discussing strategies to help the Ministry achieve its revenue generation targets and address challenges affecting effective revenue collection and remittance.
He stressed the importance of strengthening cooperation between the Ministry and KIRS to improve revenue administration and ensure that revenue due to the state is efficiently collected and remitted.
In separate remarks, the Director of Administration and General Services, Alhaji Abdullahi Yahuza, and the Director of Commerce, Alhaji Abubakar Bello Gwarzo, called for increased support in logistics and staff training to enhance service delivery and revenue generation.
The meeting also considered the need to review existing laws and regulations guiding revenue generation, as well as improve staff welfare and capacity development for personnel involved in revenue collection.
As part of measures to strengthen revenue generation, the Ministry has constituted a Revenue Optimization Committee to develop practical strategies and modalities for improving its revenue performance.
The committee is headed by the Director of Planning, Research and Statistics of the Ministry, Alhaji Rilwanu Yusuf.
Other members are Alhaji Rabiu Saleh Rimingado, Director, Government Business, KIRS; Abduljabbar A. Chedi, Director, PAYE, KIRS; Bashir Balarabe, Deputy Director, Commerce; and Mustapha Abdullahi, Principal Assistant Secretary, Ministry of Investment, Commerce, Industry and Cooperative.
The collaboration is expected to strengthen revenue administration, improve service delivery and support the overall revenue generation drive of the Kano State Government.
