Princess Diana has been named the ultimate female style icon of all time in a new nationwide poll.
The late Princess of Wales emerged top in a survey of 2,000 people commissioned by clothing brand Cotton Traders.
Nearly one-third of respondents selected Diana as the ultimate benchmark for timeless fashion, placing her ahead of several renowned figures in fashion and entertainment.
The poll also showed that Diana topped the list among Generation Z voters, despite many of them being born after her death in a car crash in 1997.
Hollywood actress Marilyn Monroe came second with 22 per cent, followed by Audrey Hepburn with 16 per cent and the current Princess of Wales with 14 per cent.
Other celebrities featured among the leading style icons, including music stars Beyoncé, Rihanna and Madonna, as well as actress Grace Kelly.
Marilyn Monroe’s famous white halterneck dress from the 1955 film The Seven Year Itch was also voted the most iconic dress in history, receiving 15 per cent of the votes.
It narrowly beat Princess Diana’s famous “revenge dress”, which received 12 per cent.
In the male category, former England football captain David Beckham emerged as the top male style icon with 20 per cent of the vote.
He was followed by music and screen legends Elvis Presley, David Bowie, Sean Connery and Brad Pitt.
Stylist Jools Dickson described Diana as a style pioneer who made royal fashion accessible and inspirational to women around the world.
The survey further found that almost nine in ten respondents believe celebrities were more stylish in previous generations than they are today.
