    Zulfa’at Abubakar Rano

Hajiya Sa’a Ibrahim is one of Nigeria’s most experienced broadcasters, journalists and media administrators, with a career spanning more than four decades and marked by professional excellence, leadership and a strong commitment to public communication.

Born on 18 April 1960 in Magashi Quarters, Gwale Local Government Area of Kano State, Hajiya Sa’a began her educational journey at Kofar Kudu Primary School before attending Government Secondary School, Dala, Kano.

She later obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from the University of Sokoto, an Advanced Diploma in Radio Production from the University of Jos, and a Master’s degree in Public Relations from Bayero University, Kano.

Her professional journey began in 1984 at Radio Kano, where she worked as a programme producer and later became Head of the station’s Women and Children’s Unit.

    Isa Kaita College

Her early years in broadcasting helped establish the foundation for a career that would eventually take her to some of Nigeria’s prominent media organisations.

In 1986, she joined Deutsche Welle (DW), where she produced women-focused programmes and also worked as a news presenter.

Her experience at DW further broadened her exposure to professional broadcasting and international media standards.

Hajiya Sa’a subsequently joined CTV 67, where she headed the Women and Children’s Unit before becoming Programme Manager. She later moved to FM Kano, rising to become Manager of Programmes and subsequently Deputy Director.

A major milestone in her career came in 2014, when she was appointed Managing Director/CEO of Abubakar Rimi Television (ARTV), Kano.

She later became the station’s Director-General/CEO

Under her leadership, ARTV strengthened its broadcasting operations, improved programming, invested in staff development and enhanced the professional capacity of its workforce.

Her influence extended beyond individual media organisations. In October 2019, Hajiya Sa’a Ibrahim made history as the first woman to become Chairperson of the Broadcasting Organisations of Nigeria (BON), a position she held from 2019 to 2021.

Her achievement at BON represented an important milestone for women in Nigeria’s broadcasting industry and reinforced her reputation as a trailblazer in media leadership.

Beyond broadcasting, Hajiya Sa’a has contributed to several public communication and social mobilisation initiatives, including programmes supported by UNICEF and DFID, with particular emphasis on health communication, community engagement and public awareness.

Her career took another significant turn on 11 August 2026, when the Federal Government appointed her as a member of the newly inaugurated Advertising Offences Tribunal, established to strengthen the regulation of advertising offences and promote compliance with Nigeria’s advertising laws and professional standards.

The appointment adds another chapter to a distinguished career that has taken her from Radio Kano to Deutsche Welle, CTV 67, FM Kano and ARTV, and ultimately to the leadership of BON.

Hajiya Sa’a Ibrahim’s career is therefore more than a record of professional appointments. It is a story of resilience, experience and leadership, particularly at a time when women were still significantly underrepresented in senior positions within Nigeria’s media industry.

Today, she remains a respected figure in Nigerian broadcasting and a prominent voice in media administration.

Her journey continues to serve as an inspiration to young journalists and broadcasters, particularly women aspiring to leadership positions in Nigeria’s rapidly evolving media landscape.
