Uganda’s Ministry of Health has convened a two-day technical workshop to explore how digital technology can improve service delivery at the point of care and strengthen the country’s immunisation programme.
The EPI Digital Systems Technical Alignment Workshop, which began on November 3, 2026, at Protea Hotel Skyz, Kampala, is being organised with support from PATH and the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (U.S. CDC)/AFENET.

The workshop brings together the Uganda National Expanded Programme on Immunisation (UNEPI), digital health teams, technical partners, district biostatisticians and frontline health workers to assess how digital solutions can improve immunisation services.
Central to the discussions are eRegistry and eAFYA, two digital platforms supporting efforts to strengthen immunisation information management and utilisation.
Participants are reviewing the implementation and deployment of the systems, examining existing challenges and identifying opportunities to make digital tools more responsive to the operational needs of immunisation programmes.

The discussions are also focusing on how reliable digital systems can reduce the workload of health workers, improve decision-support processes and enhance access to accurate information at healthcare facilities.
For immunisation programmes, improved data management is expected to help identify service delivery gaps, track progress and guide targeted interventions to ensure that every eligible child receives life-saving vaccines.
The workshop underscores the importance of digital transformation beyond the introduction of technology, with emphasis on equipping frontline health workers with practical tools and reliable information to deliver quality healthcare services.

Through its collaboration with the Ministry of Health, PATH, U.S. CDC and other partners, the African Field Epidemiology Network (AFENET) continues to support efforts to strengthen data-driven public health systems.
The workshop is expected to conclude on November 4, with further discussions on system improvements and future digital priorities for Uganda’s immunisation programme.
