The Kebbi State Government has dismissed allegations by the African Democratic Congress (ADC) linking it to the demolition of a property around Azbir Hotel in Birnin Kebbi, describing the claims as false, misleading and politically motivated.
The Commissioner for Information and Culture, Alhaji Yakubu Ahmed-BK, stated this during a press briefing in Birnin Kebbi, the state capital, attended by media aides to the Governor.

He accused the ADC of repeatedly resorting to unsubstantiated allegations, misinformation and distortion of facts in an attempt to discredit the state government and generate public controversy ahead of the 2027 general elections.
According to him, the incident was essentially a private land ownership dispute which some ADC supporters had allegedly misrepresented on social media as a government-sponsored demolition of an opposition-owned property.
He explained that documentary evidence presented by a businessman, Alhaji Umaru Mohammed Gulumbe, who claimed ownership of the disputed property, indicated that the matter involved a civil dispute between private individuals.

The Commissioner said the documents included a Certificate of Occupancy bearing the signature of former Governor Adamu Aliero.
He further disclosed that Gulumbe had reported the alleged trespass to the Police and petitioned the Ministry of Lands and Housing, following which committees were constituted to investigate the competing claims and determine ownership of the property.
Alhaji Ahmed-BK maintained that the Kebbi State Government neither initiated nor participated in the demolition, insisting that the administration had no involvement in the private dispute.
He described attempts to link Governor Nasir Idris’s administration to the incident as a calculated effort to mislead the public and tarnish the government’s image.

The Commissioner expressed concern that despite the emergence of information clarifying the circumstances surrounding the incident, the ADC had neither retracted its allegations nor apologised to the state government.
He stressed that political differences should not be used as an excuse to manufacture allegations or mislead the public on matters that could be resolved through lawful procedures.
