Vice President Kashim Shettima has said the Federal Government will deploy emerging technologies to tackle insecurity and strengthen the operational capacity of the Armed Forces as part of efforts to safeguard lives and property across the country.
Shettima stated this on Tuesday in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, where he represented President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the grand finale of the Nigerian Army Day Celebration 2026 and the African Land Forces Forum (ALFF).
The event, themed “Protecting the Nation and Serving the People: A Way Forward for the Nigerian Army,” brought together military chiefs, security experts and participants from across Africa to deliberate on strategies for addressing evolving security challenges.
Speaking at the event, the Vice President said the Tinubu administration remains resolute in deploying modern technologies to combat emerging security threats and safeguard the lives and property of Nigerians.
He noted that the Federal Government is prioritising the modernisation of the Armed Forces through sustained investment in modern military hardware and equipment to enhance operational effectiveness.
According to him, the administration is also committed to strengthening the capacity of military personnel through improved training and skills development to boost operational planning and combat readiness.
Shettima said the government’s ongoing reforms are aimed at equipping the Nigerian Armed Forces with the tools and expertise required to effectively tackle contemporary security challenges and ensure lasting peace across the country.
He reaffirmed President Tinubu’s commitment to supporting the Armed Forces in fulfilling their constitutional responsibility of defending Nigeria’s territorial integrity and protecting its citizens.
The Vice President commended the Nigerian Army for its sacrifices and professionalism in safeguarding national unity and combating insecurity.
He expressed confidence that continued collaboration among security agencies, investment in technology and capacity building would further strengthen the country’s ability to address emerging security threats.
The Nigerian Army Day Celebration and the African Land Forces Forum serve as platforms for military leaders and defence experts to exchange ideas, strengthen partnerships and promote regional cooperation on security and defence issues.
