The Deputy Director at the Kaduna State Ministry of Education, Dr Amina Mohammed, stated this during the commemoration of the International Day of the Girl Child in Zaria.
She said the annual observance provides an opportunity to renew calls for greater investment in girls’ education and encourage them to pursue learning for their personal development and the benefit of society.
Dr Mohammed stressed the need to sustain efforts to ensure that every girl has access to quality education and the opportunity to realise her potential.
In his remarks, the Emir of Zazzau, Ambassador Ahmad Nuhu Bamalli, represented by the Garkuwan Ayyukan Zazzau, Engineer Balarabe Musa, highlighted the importance of protecting and promoting girls’ education, particularly in the current social and economic environment.

The emir commended the Centre for Girls’ Education for its efforts to improve the lives of girls in various areas and assured the organisation of the needed support.
Earlier, the Director of the Centre for Girls’ Education, Hajiya Habiba Muhammad, called for an end to child marriage, describing the practice as a major obstacle to girls’ education and the realisation of their aspirations.
She explained that child marriage deprives many girls of the opportunity to continue their education, acquire relevant skills and pursue their ambitions.
Hajiya Habiba Muhammad said the International Day of the Girl Child provides an important platform to draw attention to challenges affecting girls and mobilise support for the protection of their rights.
She urged governments at all levels, community leaders, parents and other stakeholders to work together to ensure that girls receive adequate care, protection and access to education.
