eHealth Africa has trained members of the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) Routine Immunisation Data Team on Geographic Information System (GIS) analytics to strengthen immunisation planning and improve vaccination coverage across underserved communities.
The six-day hands-on training, held at eHealth Africa’s office in Kano, equipped participants with practical skills in using digital mapping tools to analyse immunisation coverage, identify potential service delivery gaps and support evidence-based decision-making.

During the exercise, participants gained experience in mapping geographic immunisation data to identify communities that may be underserved and require targeted vaccination interventions.
By the end of the training, the participants had developed their own maps and explored how geographic insights could guide decisions on the allocation of health resources and the delivery of immunisation services.

eHealth Africa said the initiative was designed to strengthen the capacity of government health teams to use data and digital technologies in identifying gaps and improving healthcare delivery.
The organisation noted that beyond providing digital tools, the focus was to equip public health officials with practical skills to make informed decisions and sustain improvements within their respective health systems.

It added that the training forms part of its continued collaboration with NPHCDA to strengthen the use of data-driven approaches in routine immunisation planning and implementation.
The initiative is expected to contribute to more equitable immunisation services by helping health authorities identify underserved communities and ensure that children who might otherwise be missed are reached with life-saving vaccines.
