At Thursday’s sitting, counsel to the occupants, Barrister Abubakar A. Muhammad, filed an application seeking to set aside an earlier order granted in favour of Karim General Merchant.
The applicants also asked the court to summon the company’s counsel, Barrister Buraida Jafar, to explain why the house was allegedly demolished when, according to them, the court order did not authorise the demolition.
Both Barrister Jafar, representing Karim General Merchant, and Barrister Muhammad, representing the occupants, appeared before the court and presented their respective submissions.

After hearing from both parties, the presiding Chief Magistrate, Ibrahim Sa’idu Ja’e, adjourned the matter until October 19, 2026, for further hearing.
Speaking after the proceedings, Barrister Muhammad explained that the applicants had earlier filed an application that resulted in the granting of an injunction.
He said efforts were subsequently made to serve the relevant court processes and the enrolled order on the respondents but allegedly encountered difficulties because the respondents’ former counsel was no longer representing them.
The counsel’s explanation followed the applicants’ request for the court to examine the circumstances surrounding the demolition and determine whether it was carried out within the scope of the earlier order.

Efforts to obtain a reaction from Barrister Jafar were unsuccessful. Shortly after leaving the courtroom, he declined an interview, explaining that he was heading to the High Court for another matter.
The court is expected to continue hearing the case on October 19, 2026.
