Five academic staff of the Faculty of Dentistry, Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, have completed a diploma programme in preparation for Masters and Fellowship studies in Oral and Maxillofacial Implantology.
The staff received their diploma certificates at a graduation ceremony held at the weekend at the Department of Computer Engineering, ABU, Zaria.

The ceremony was presided over by the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Professor Adamu Ahmed.
The diploma programme is a prerequisite for the five academics to commence Masters and Fellowship programmes in Oral and Maxillofacial Implantology at the Global University of Medical Sciences (GUMS), Jamaica.
Recently, GUMS awarded the five academics scholarships valued at 125,000 dollars to support their Masters and Fellowship programmes.
Each of the beneficiaries is to receive a 25,000-dollar scholarship.
The scholarship was facilitated by the President of the International Postgraduate Medical College (IPMC), Professor Christopher Ogunsalu.

GUMS specialises in postgraduate training in various dental disciplines, including Oral Surgery, Maxillofacial Surgery, Implantology and Oral Medicine.
The university is a subsidiary of the International Postgraduate Medical College.
The high point of the ceremony was the presentation of certificates to the five academic staff by Professor Christopher Ogunsalu.
In his remarks, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Adamu Ahmed, congratulated the staff on the successful completion of the diploma programme.
Professor Ahmed also expressed appreciation to Professor Ogunsalu for facilitating the scholarship, which he said would provide the beneficiaries with an opportunity to further their professional training at GUMS.

He encouraged the beneficiaries to make effective use of the opportunity and contribute to the advancement of dental education and specialist care.
The development is expected to strengthen specialist capacity in oral and maxillofacial implantology and contribute to the development of dental education and services in Nigeria.
