Ahmadu Bello University, ABU, Zaria has signed a 10-year agreement with Yamaguchi University, Japan, to strengthen academic cooperation and promote mutual understanding between the two institutions.
The agreement was signed in Japan on Tuesday by the Vice-Chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University, Professor Adamu Ahmed, and the President of Yamaguchi University, Dr Tanizawa Yukio.

The agreement, which takes effect from the date of signing, will remain valid for 10 years and may be renewed following a review and renegotiation by both universities.
Under the pact, the institutions agreed to develop collaborative activities in academic areas of mutual interest based on the principles of equality and reciprocity.
The areas of cooperation include the exchange of faculty members, researchers and administrative staff, as well as student exchange programmes.

The two universities will also collaborate on research projects, lectures and symposia, and the exchange of academic information and materials.
The agreement further provides for the promotion of other forms of academic cooperation that may be mutually beneficial to both institutions.
It states that specific activities arising from the agreement will be separately negotiated and agreed upon by the faculties, schools or institutes responsible for implementing them.

The universities also agreed to leverage their respective strengths and expertise to provide mutual support and collaborate on grant acquisition opportunities whenever such opportunities arise.
The partnership is expected to expand academic exchanges, research collaboration and institutional linkages between Ahmadu Bello University and Yamaguchi University.
