In a landmark move to expand access to education for underserved groups, the Kano State Agency for Mass Education has officially inaugurated a Vigilante Education Centre in Dawakin Tofa Local Government Area.
The centre is designed to provide continuing education opportunities for members of the vigilante corps who completed primary school but were unable to further their studies due to financial and societal constraints.

Speaking at the event, the Executive Secretary of the Agency, Dr. Binta Abubakar, expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Executive Governor of Kano State, Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf, for his unwavering support and commitment to inclusive education.
“This centre is part of a larger vision to ensure no one is left behind in the state’s education drive. We are particularly grateful to His Excellency for prioritizing the educational needs of the vigilante corps,” Dr. Binta stated.

She also used the occasion to highlight the significance of International Literacy Day, noting that the government will recognize individuals and institutions advancing literacy efforts.
Among those to be honoured is Hisbah, for its collaborative role in supporting the vigilante corps through this initiative.
Dr. Binta further disclosed that Governor Yusuf has directed all government employees who have not completed their education to be given the opportunity and support to return to school.
The broader goal, she said, is not only to help learners obtain their Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) but also to inspire them to pursue tertiary education, including university degrees.
The education programme, she added, will be replicated across all 44 local government areas in the state to reach as many beneficiaries as possible.
In his remarks, the State Commander of the Vigilante Group, Ambassador Shehu Rabiu, thanked the Governor and Dr. Binta for bringing the long-awaited dream to life.
He revealed that the vigilante had previously formed a committee to assist 2,200 members in accessing education, but their efforts were hindered by lack of funding.
“With the state government’s renewed support, we are confident that these members will now have a clear path to completing their education and improving their lives,” he said.
Also speaking at the event, the Chairman of Dawakin Tofa LGA, Hon. Anas Mukhtar Bello Dan Maliki, represented by Community Councillor Suleiman Ibrahim, commended the initiative and lauded Dr. Binta for her leadership and dedication.
The event concluded with the distribution of learning materials to students, followed by a closing prayer delivered by Hisbah Commander, Malam Jamilu.
