Residents of Zangon Kaya in Dawakin Tofa Local Government Area of Kano State were thrown into deep mourning following the tragic drowning of four young men in a waterway obstructed by construction debris.
The Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Fire Service, Saminu Yusif, confirmed the incident to newsmen.

According to him, the tragedy occurred after the victims entered the waterway which had accumulated water due to a blockage caused by ongoing railway construction.
He noted that, according to eyewitness reports, two of the victims initially entered the water intending to swim but became trapped. In an effort to save them, a third person entered and also got trapped.
Tragically, a fourth individual, attempting to rescue the others, suffered the same fate.
Saminu hinted that, before the arrival of the fire service, local residents managed to recover two of the victims.
“ The remaining two were retrieved by the rescue team from the State Fire Service, who responded promptly after receiving a distress call at 13:48 hours”

The victims include 25 years old Nasirudden Tasi’u,28 year, Bashir Sani, 22 years old Yakubu Muhd and 26 years old Usman Ubale.
The public relations officer hinted that, all four individuals were found unconscious and later confirmed dead.
“ Their remains were handed over to SP Abdulkadir M. Albasu of the Dawanau Police Division for further investigation”
Saminu said, The Director of the State Fire Service, Alhaji Sani Anas, expressed deep condolences to the bereaved families.
He also cautioned members of the public against entering unauthorised or hazardous water bodies, particularly those affected by construction activities.
“We urge citizens to avoid swimming or playing in water channels, especially those that are blocked or not designed for recreational use. Safety must be the priority,” the Fire Service stated.
The community continues to grieve as investigations into the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident are ongoing.
