The Kano State Ministry of Environment and Climate Change MoECC through its legal representative, Barrister Bahijjah H. Aliyu, has successfully secured the conviction of Ibrahim Abubakar for violating pollution control and public health regulations.
Abubakar was apprehended by police patrol officers in the Tukuntawa Gidan Radio area for illegally burning used vehicle tyres—an act that releases hazardous toxins into the atmosphere, endangering both human health and the environment.

Acting on complaints from concerned residents, Director of Pollution Control, Ibrahim Nasir, led an inspection of the area, which resulted in the case being filed at the Magistrate Court.
During proceedings, the prosecution presented compelling evidence demonstrating the environmental and health dangers of the defendant’s actions.
Delivering judgment, Magistrate Auwalu Yusuf found the accused guilty and sentenced him to three months in prison or an alternative fine, sending a strong signal about the consequences of environmental violations.
The Magistrate also issued a stern warning to the convict, stressing the grave impact of such pollution on public well-being.

The Ministry praised the court’s judgment and reaffirmed its zero-tolerance stance on environmental degradation.
It also called on residents to adhere strictly to environmental laws and avoid practices that endanger lives and pollute the ecosystem.
“We are committed to ensuring a cleaner, healthier Kano State for all. Every citizen has a role to play,” the Ministry stated.
