The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested five suspected cultists and armed robbers in connection with a violent robbery and rape incident that occurred in Abak Local Government Area.
The suspects were nabbed during a late-night raid on their hideout following weeks of intelligence gathering and investigation, according to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John.

Victim Attacked at Guest House in Abak
The incident, which was reported on June 26, 2025, involved a man (name withheld) who alleged that a gang of armed men broke into his room at a guest house in Abak.
The attackers reportedly robbed him of personal belongings and raped his female guest during the invasion.
Acting on the directive of the Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, a team of detectives tracked down the suspects and carried out a successful operation on July 30 at about 11:10 PM.

During the raid, police discovered a suspected cult shrine at the suspects’ hideout. Items recovered included:
Two small coffins packed with used female sanitary pads
Other disturbing fetish objects believed to be linked to cult rituals and dark practices.
DSP Timfon John confirmed that investigations are ongoing to apprehend other members of the gang still at large. She emphasized the Command’s commitment to eradicating criminal elements across the state.
