In a historic milestone that promises to bolster the national infrastructure and economic activities and connectivity, His Excellency, Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom, on behalf of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, launched the construction of a 65-kilometre, 3-lane dual carriageway.

The event marks the commencement of Section 3B of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway Project in the State, an ambitious 750-kilometre road network connecting key coastal cities across Nigeria.

“It is a privilege to be part of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway Project. This is not just about building roads, it is about investing in the future of Akwa Ibom and Nigeria, as a whole. We must continue to work together, crossing political divides to build a prosperous and connected nation,”

He also lauded the Contractors for their impressive work, especially the stone base already laid on the road sections, which is waterproofed, designed for long-term durability and only associated with the company. Engr. Umahi also expressed confidence that the project would stimulate economic growth and create jobs for the indigenes.

Barr. Bello Muhammad Goronyo, the Minister of State for Works, acknowledged the strategic importance of the Coastal Highway and its potential to drive economic prosperity across the region and Nigeria.

He emphasised the administration’s commitment to inclusive development stating, “This project is proof of President Tinubu’s vision to prioritise the needs of the people and improve infrastructure nationwide.” He commended Governor Eno for aligning Akwa Ibom’s developmental goals with the Federal Government’s while ensuring the successful execution of critical projects such as the one being flagged off.

The Managing Director of Hitech, Mr. Dany Aboud, assured stakeholders of his company’s commitment to delivering high-quality work according to specifications and on time.

He emphasised that the construction would involve the use of state-of-the-art technologies, alongside local manpower, ensuring skill transfer and capacity building for the community.

“We are dedicated to completing this project on time, using the best technology available, and ensuring the involvement of the local workforce to maximise economic benefits,” Mr. Aboud affirmed.

Earlier, the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Works, Engr. Olufunsho Adebiyi celebrated the unity and progress that the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway represents.

He praised the Honourable Minister as a “bulldozer of progress,” whose tireless work is instrumental to making this project a reality.

“I am truly honoured to be here today, witnessing the launch of a project that will have a lasting impact on this region. With the rains falling, the heavens have sealed this project, and we are all blessed to be part of it. And with the full support of all stakeholders, we are confident that this project will bring long-lasting change to the people of Akwa Ibom and beyond,” said Engr. Adebiyi.

The flag-off of Section 3B of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway in Akwa Ibom State marks a significant step in improving Nigeria’s road network, enhancing regional connectivity, and stimulating economic growth. With the continued support of the Federal Government, the Akwa Ibom State Government, and key stakeholders, the project is geared to be completed on schedule, bringing greater prosperity and unity to the region and the nation, as a whole.
