The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has announced the successful recovery of a locally made pistol and the arrest of a suspect in Ibesikpo Asutan Local Government Area.
In a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer
Akwa Ibom State Command DSP Timfon John ,made available to newsmen.
The statement explained that, On April 18, 2025, at approximately 4:00 PM, acting on credible information , operatives of the Command apprehended one Amanam Bassey Abraham, 18-year-old male from Akpautong Village.
He noted that, the arrest followed information indicating that the suspect was in possession of an illegal firearm.
“A search conducted on the suspect at the time of his arrest resulted in the recovery of a locally made pistol”
John hinted that, during the initial interrogation, the suspect claimed that the firearm was given to him as collateral by his landlord, whose name is currently unknown, for a loan of five thousand naira (₦5,000).
“The suspect further stated his intention was to keep the pistol with his father for safekeeping”
The public relations officer explained that, the Akwa Ibom State Police Command has launched an investigation to apprehend the landlord for questioning.
“The Commissioner of Police has commended the vigilance and swift action of the Officers in ensuring the recovery of the firearm and the arrest of the suspect”
“The Command reiterates its commitment to maintaining law and order and ensuring the safety and security of all residents of Akwa Ibom State”
