Bayero University, Kano (BUK) has announced the reintroduction of its Remedial Programme, which was suspended over a decade ago.

According to Professor Abbas, the university’s management decided to revive the programme due to two main factors.

“Firstly, there has been a noticeable decline in enrollment in Basic Science programmes, and the remedial programme aims to address this challenge by preparing students for science-based courses”

He pointed out that , many prospective students from the university’s catchment area struggle to meet the entry requirements for science programmes.

“The remedial programme will provide these candidates with the necessary academic support to overcome their deficiencies, thereby increasing their chances of gaining admission into the university”

Professor Sagir explained that, the reintroduction of the remedial programme is expected to enhance the academic prospects of BUK students and contribute to the university’s overall development.

“ It is also seen as a strategic move to improve academic performance and widen access to higher education for students within the university’s catchment area”

The vice chancellor highlighted that “

To be eligible for the remedial programme, candidates typically need to possess credit passes in at least five “O” level subjects, including English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology, obtained at not more than two sittings in the SSCE or its equivalent”
